Enrollment Status

To be eligible for the Federal Direct Loan Program, students must be full time or at least half-time in an eligible program. The same rule applies to private loans.

Full time at AGS is defined as at least 4 courses per semester, including the directed reading and thesis seminars. Thesis or Foreign Policy Paper project work (research, writing) are each counted as a one course-equivalent per semester in the second and third years, provided the student stays and incurs living expenses in France. Doctoral dissertation work is counted as  two course-equivalent per semester.

Here is a chart summarizing the student's status as it is reported for student loans :

Please note that the dual program with Université Paris Sud 11, LL.M. preparatory courses or French language courses at Alliance Française do not count as course equivalents for the purpose of a student's enrollment status since these institutions are not eligible for Federal Loans.

Fall 2015

quote leftFrom current issues in the Middle East taught together by an Iranian historian and an Israelli journalist, to NGO management taught by the director of Human Rights Watch in France, every class was fascinating and taught by some of the most impressive people I could ever have imagined. I immediately felt at home in this small but active AGS community because, although students and professors are all from different parts of the world, everyone takes the time to understand each other's perspective. Overall, I would recommend AGS to anyone with a thirst for intellectual stimulation and a drive to not only understand the world of international relations, but engage in it..quote right
