Certificates and Single Courses

Certificate programs

The certificate programs at the School of International Relations at AGS are designed for students and professionals who wish to deepen or complement their knowledge in a specialized field of international relations.

They are part-time programs consisting of two-course modules taken over one or two semesters. Students in this program earn a Graduate Certificate in International Relations specifying the courses that they successfully completed.

Students may choose the courses they wish to attend in the Current Course Offering. See also the Graduate Course Catalog for course descriptions.

Certificate in NGO Management
One of the certificate programs at AGS, the Graduate Certificate in NGO Management provides in-depth understanding of the nature and role of NGOs in the international context as well as a pratical approach of their creation, action and management. More about this program

Single courses

Students and professionals may enroll in single courses for professional training, for personal enrichment, or for credit transfer to another program. Non-degree courses may either be audited or taken for a letter grade. Students who want to transfer credits from AGS to another program must take the course for a letter grade. Auditing students are not required to hand in written assignments or sit for exams, but are expected to do all required reading, attend all classes, and fully participate in class discussions.

Students may choose the courses they wish to attend in the Current Course Offering. See also the Graduate Course Catalog for course descriptions.

Transferring to a degree program at AGS

Courses followed as single courses or as part of a Certificate program can be transferred to a full degree-program (M.A. or Ph.D.) at AGS, or to another institution depending on the institution's transfer policy.

To change from the non-degree program to a full M.A. or Ph.D. program at AGS, students must re-submit a complete application.

quote leftIn addition to the many benefits of studying international relations in a highly specialized program, located in a dynamic city that fosters learning the discipline, my overall experience at AGS has been enhanced by an outstanding administrative staff that is diligent, professional and, above all, friendly. Their tireless efforts are key in making the experience of AGS students positive. I have done my best to thank them with good French desserts and bad American humor!quote right
